Digimon Data Squad is the fifth series in the digimon franchise. It was made by Toei animation and aired every Sunday at 9:00 am on the Fuji TV Network later a movie called Ultimate Power! Activate Burst Mode!! was released December 9 in 2006.

The Digivice that is used in this series is called Digivice iC, it also has an upgraded version called the "Digivice Burst." This is the first time in the digimon series that the lead character isn't wearing goggles. This series is the second one where the last battle is fought in the digimon world against a non-digimon entity.

Unlike the other seasons, digimon data squad took on a more out there changes. Also this series was aimed at older teens from 16 to 21 years old. This is why the characters are much older (the characters are ranging from teens to adults) and the story is much darker than the previous seasons. On the request of the sponser Bandai they put a digimon from the original series in and they chose Agumon.

A fourteen year old boy called Marcus Damon, who is an undefeated ultimate fighter (street fighter in the Japanese version). He meets Agumon who has escaped from DATS which is a secret government organization set up to defend the human from invading wild digimon. After Marcus and Agumon fight each other they quickly become friends and after overcoming a series of events, they are inducted into DATS, they hope that DATS will help them grow stronger.

Marcus's team mates are Thomas H. Norstein who is also fourteen years old and is a prodigy along with his partner gaomon  and eighteen year old Yoshino "Yoshi" Fujieda and her partner Lalamon. As the series progresses Thomas finds out that digimon respond to human emotions specifically the darkness, utting them at odds with monster who seek to use humans as a vice to get more powerful.

The plot thickens when we are introduce to a digimon called Merukimon who is one of the rulers of the digital world and the human boy Keenan Kriar who serves him along with his partner Falcomon, the DATS team try to figure out why the hate humans so much, until it is shown that the true enemy is Akihiro Kurata, a scientist who led an attack on the digital world years before that killed many digimon, including Keenan's adoptive mother Frigimon.

Kurata gained the support of the Japanese government and important buisnessmen like Thomas's father to destroy all the digimon in the digital world, all the while claming that digimon are a threat to mankind. But that was a fake reason he really wanted to harness the energy of destroyed digimon to power up Belphemon, one of the seven deadly digimon and uses it in his attempt to rule the human world and eventually the digital world, but his efforts are thwarted by Marcus and the gang.

Kurata's last act was to set off a bomb which collapses the frontier between than human and the digital world causing the two worlds to nearly collide together, this collision was semi stopped because of BanchoLeomon who ordered Marcus to go and search for King Drasil. Upon finding King Drasil they find out that he is planning to destroy the human world in order to save the dital world because the two worlds cannot exist in the same dimension. To accomplish this task he gathered his Royal Knights who are Craniamon, Gallantmon, Magnamon, Dynasmon, LoadKnightmon, Ulforceveemon, Leopardmon and Omnimon.

Marcus was confused because King Drasil took on the form of his father, Dr. Spencer Damon who vanished in the Digital World years before. But we later find out that King Drasel took his body but his soul is being preserved by BanchoLeomon, who we find out was Spencers digimon partner. After defeating some of the Royal Knights the DATS team decide to confront King Drasil himself who after leaving Spencer's body becomes an all powerful robotic form who is determined to destroy the human world by itself.

Even when the Royal Knights turn against King Drasil he still won't give up his goal, except now he is out to destroy both the human world and the digital world to create a new world. Using their emotions Matcus and Agumon finally defeat King Drasil and the two worlds go back to normal. Before King Drasil disappears he brings Spencer back to life and he returns to his family. All the digimon have to go back to the digital world to help restore it and Marcus decideds to go with Agumon so not to be parted from him.

Five years later Keenan and Kristy who is Marcus's sister go to school together. Thomas managed to find a cure for his sisters illness and became the youngest scientist to win the Nobal Prize at Age 19. Yoshi has joined the police force along with the other ex members of DATSand marcus and agumon have become peace makers in the digital world, they break up fights between Digimon.
